OVERVIEW
Northland's Regional Coaching Plan was developed in 2024 by a steering group of self-appointed representatives from nine organisations – Northland Hockey, Northland Volleyball, High Performance Sport New Zealand, Northland Cricket, Northland Football Club, Northland Rugby, NorthTec, Whangarei Girls’ High School and Sport Northland – aiming to provide the Northland Sports Coalition with a comprehensive guide to collectively and collaboratively enhance our coaching landscape.
They envisioned a future with "more coaches, more confident, and more capable," supported by three guiding pillars: Recruitment, Retention, and Resourcing.
INITIATIVES
Two action groups have been formed to advance priority actions for the first year of the implementation plan.
Key projects for 2025 include:
Joint marketing campaign
Supporting the Rangatahi Coaching Programme
Cross-code coaching workshops
Development of a regional coaching network to facilitate resource and knowledge sharing across different sports in Northland.
Special thanks to the steering group comprised of Tama Jones, Grant Harrison, Madeline Whittam, Kelly McCallum, Rob Geaney, Ben Whatmore, Melinda Leslie-Ogg, Ben Wiki, and their respective organisations for their support, time and effort put into ensuring the plan reflects the needs of the Northland coaching community.
