Kaikohe Golf Club was granted some Tū Manawa Active Aotearoa Fund, and played host to over 40 children last Friday, 13 May. What may be an unlucky date for some, the organisers of the new concept were more than happy with the day!
What started as an idea in December 2021, finally came alive with children aged between 4 and 16 taking part in a free intro to golf afternoon. With all equipment supplied, helpers were on hand to guide participants into learning about golf. With a quick safety briefing, children were split into smaller groups and then learned a few fundamentals to golf, including putting on the green, and the all-important ‘drive!’.
Sport Northland’s Community Connector, Cheryl Smith, says “ it was a real awesome buzz last Friday to see new kids participate and adults/parents wanting to become members of the club and to hear the laughter of our tamariki having fun – a timely new opportunity as we have all been missing getting together, hanging out and playing”.
Bookings have already been made for the next session, with children eager to come back and see how far they can hit the ball. Thank you to all the Club members who have been very supportive. If you want to make a booking, please contact Kerrie uknowus@yahoo.co.nz
