Receiving her Halberg Lifetime Achievement Award earlier this year was the recognition of a truly passionate and remarkable woman who has given so much to communities around Northland.
Myra Larcombe, born in 1927, has been involved in swimming and water safety as a competitor, instructor, coach and administrator since 1946 and is still going. Myra has been with the Top Energy WaterSafe Programme when it first began in 1996 and is still going strong delivering this coming season to her two local schools Opua and Russell.
Myra has not only spent thousands of hours coaching, she has also been involved in various other areas of swimming and water safety. These include:
- Northland delegate to Northland Royal Life Saving (5+ years) & the NZ Royal Life Saving Rural Field Officer
- Northland delegate to Northland Water Safety (5+ years)
- NZ Water Safety Council Field Officer 1973 until re-structuring in 1990s
- V.S.S Instructor/Organiser 1973 – 1981
- Northland 10 Day Swim Camp Director / Coach 1982 – 1986
- Swimming Tutor/Examiner Level 1 1982 + for some years
- Regional Coach (Waikato/Northland) 1983 – 1987
